Instrument details
Acronym FGM (FY4)
Full name Fluxgate Magnetometer
Purpose To measure the background magnetic field to identify and time the abrupt reconfigurations of the magnetosphere during onset of solar storms.
Short description Measures the external magnetic field through the modulation induced on the magnetic field generated in a onboard two-ring coil. Dynamic range ±0.1 to ±600 nT, resolution ±0.06 nT at the maximum of the dynamics.
Background A new sensor embarked on FY-4B.
