Acronym SEPICA
Full name Solar Energetic Particle Ionic Charge Analyzer
Purpose To measure the ionic charge state Q, the energy E, and the nuclear charge Z, for energies above 0.2 MeV/n
Short description Energetic particles entering the multi-slit collimator are electrostatically deflected between six sets of electrode plates which are supplied with variable high voltages up to 30 kV. The deflection, which is inversely proportional to energy per charge, E/Q, is determined in the back portion of the instrument. Z ranging from 2 to 26. Energy range: 0.1-18 MeV/n for Z>2, 0.3-6 Mev/n for alpha-particles
