Programme description
  • Single-satellite programme to demonstrate technologies preparatory to Landsat-7 follow-on.
  • USA programme: NASA responsible of development and operations.
  • The platform is actively stabilised over 3 axes.
  • The design life time of the satellites was 1 year.  After that, operations have been extended and handed-over to USGS.
  • The satellite is designed to cover the Landsat orbit around 10:00.

Data circulation
  • Selected images stored onboard and downlinked to stations in Fairbanks, Svalbard and McMurdo (Antarctica).
  • Also, selected images transmitted in real-time through the TDRSS data relay satellite.
  • All data concentrated to the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Data Center (EDC) of the USGS for processing and distribution.
